What We Believe

"What comes into our minds when we think about God is the most important thing about us." - A.W. Tozer

Statements of Faith

The following are the core beliefs of First Christian Church based on the foundational truths taught in the bible. All of our teaching and ministry is rooted in and flows out of these biblical doctrines.

We believe in one God: Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
(Matthew 3:16-17; John 14:9-10)

We believe God is the creator of all things (seen and unseen).
 (Genesis 1:1; Acts 17:24-28; Hebrews 11:3)

We believe in Jesus Christ, God's one and only Son, who was born (on earth) from a virgin, and who through His death and resurrection became the Savior of the world.
(John 1:14; Matthew 1:18; John 20:24-31; Romans 5:6-11)

We believe in the Holy Spirit who dwells within every Christian.
(John 16:5-15; Romans 8:10-11; 1 Corinthians 3:16)

We believe the Bible is the inerrant and inspired Word of God and the final authority on matters of faith.
(Hebrews 4:12-13; 2 Timothy 3:14-17)

We believe man, created by God, willingly sinned against God and therefore is lost and without hope apart from Christ.
(Romans 3:23; 1 John 1:5-7)

We believe that salvation for mankind comes by grace through the blood of Jesus Christ (His death on the cross).
 (Matthew 26:28; Romans 5:8-11; Ephesians 2:8-10)

We believe the Bible teaches that the pattern to follow in order to receive Jesus as Savior is to believe in Christ as God's Son and Savior of the world, to repent (or turn) from personal sin; to confess Christ as Lord, and to be immersed in baptism.
(Luke 24:45-47; Acts 2:38; Romans 6:1-7; 2 Peter 3:9)

We believe the church is the body and bride of Christ, founded on the day of Pentecost (Acts 2), and consisting of all Christians everywhere.
 (Matthew 16:13-19; Acts 2:14-47; Revelation 21:1-7)

We believe it is God's plan for the elders to lead the local church.
(Acts 20:28; 1 Timothy 3:1-7; Titus 1:5-9; 1 Peter 5:1-4)

We believe that death seals the eternal destiny of each person.  Those who have been saved will inherit eternal life; the unsaved, eternal separation from God.
 (Romans 8:9-14; John 6:47)

We believe in the sanctity of marriage between a man and woman.  Scripture teaches by reference and Word of men and women becoming one flesh as husband and wife by a marriage covenant.  (Ephesians 5:31-33; Genesis 2:24; 1 Peter 3:7)

We believe a fearless Christ-follower cannot simultaneously embrace sin and declare Christ as Lord.
(1 John 3:4-10)
